Minesweeper solver from image
Bring a screenshot of your own board. Align its grid, label sample tiles, then check the matched board. The solver explains certain safe cells and mines using the clues you enter. Everything happens in your browser.
Bring your board
Local image processingStart with a screenshot of a regular rectangular grid. You label example tiles; the reader matches close copies. No automatic OCR or probability estimates.
Choose a screenshot, or enter a board below. Nothing is uploaded.
How to read a Minesweeper screenshot
- Choose a PNG or JPEG smaller than 8 MB, at most 4096 pixels per side and 8 million pixels total. Include the full game board.
- Enter the number of rows and columns. Adjust the crop so every overlay line follows a tile boundary. Leave the timer, mine counter and outer frame outside the crop.
- Read the grid. Choose “covered,” “flag,” or a revealed number, then label a matching tile. Label opened blanks as zero. Repeat for each tile type in the image.
- Match similar tiles. Unread cells stay marked with a question mark. Check every matched tile and correct any mistakes by choosing a value and clicking the cell.
- Confirm that you reviewed the complete board and its flags. Find certain moves, then read why each S cell is safe or each M cell must hold a mine.
What the solver can prove
A number counts mines in its adjacent cells, including diagonals. If its mines are all flagged, the remaining neighbors are safe. If every remaining covered neighbor is needed, all are mines. Comparing overlapping clues can also expose the difference between their covered-cell sets.
These deductions depend on correct numbers and flags. A wrong flag, missing edge or misread tile can produce a wrong recommendation. The tool checks local contradictions and stops when it finds one; it does not prove that every possible board is globally consistent. It never chooses a random move or invents a probability.

Supported inputs and limitations
The reader works by matching sample tiles you label in the same image. It is not universal optical character recognition. Repeated, consistent tile artwork works best. Heavy compression, differently highlighted cells, animation and antialiasing can require more samples or manual correction. Rotated JPEGs may need to be exported as an unrotated PNG first.
You can enter up to 480 cells, with a maximum of 24 rows and 30 columns. The analysis uses a fixed work limit to keep large boards responsive. If validation reaches that limit, no moves are shown. The tool does not calculate odds, use a total mine counter or play your original game for you.
Questions about screenshot solving
- Can I solve a Minesweeper screenshot?
- Yes. Choose a PNG or JPEG, align the grid and label samples of the tile types in your screenshot. Close copies are matched for you. Review every tile before asking for deductions.
- Which screenshots work?
- Use a full, regular rectangular board with square or rectangular cells, clear boundaries and consistent tile artwork. Cropped PNG screenshots usually work best. JPEG is supported, but compression, animation, shadows, scaling and unusual themes can leave tiles unread. You can correct every cell manually.
- Does the image leave my device?
- This tool reads image pixels in your browser. It has no image upload endpoint or remote image recognition service. It does not save your image or board in browser storage.
- Does it recognize every Minesweeper theme automatically?
- No. You label sample tiles, then the reader matches visually close copies. A question mark means unread, not covered. You must check every tile and correct unread or incorrectly matched tiles before analysis.
- Can it tell me where to guess?
- It does not guess or calculate probabilities. It applies basic clue rules and subset deductions. No certain move found does not prove the board is consistent or that a guess is unavoidable.
- Can I enter a board without a screenshot?
- Yes. Set the rows and columns, apply the grid size, choose a tile value and click cells to enter the full board. Confirm your review, then find certain moves.
